Question no 2519 : MPS

In SAP PP or PPPI, when definition MPS material and BOM, what are the possibilities ?

(more than one answers)

A)     You can use time fense for MPS material similar to MRP material to auto firm planned orders.
B)     MPS can only be set for finised goods.
C)     Both MPS and MRP material Planned Independent material can be subjected to LTP.
D)     An MPS material should not be assigned to a BOM where the header BOM material's MRP type is not MPS.
E)     You can switch off MPS planning for a material using the explostion type in the BOM item detail.

  1. A) Many features of planning parameters for MPS or MRP material are the same including the use of parameters provided in the MRP data views in the material master. In fact there are very similar except the segregation of responsbilities of the MRP planner against the MRP planner via trasaction code authorization.

  2. B) MPS planner is usually a more senior planner or planning manager's responsibilities. Therefore it is usually the finished goods assigned as MPS material and the rest of the materials in the BOM are calculated via dependent requirements calculated from thr MPS material explosion. A sub-assembly and component can also be MPS materials which also require the attention of the MPS planner, usually such materials are critical materials and may have long lead times.

  3. C) Basically all materials with a valid MRP type can be subjected to LTP.

  4. D) It is illogical to have an MPS material to be assigned to a header material in the BOM which is an MRP material.

  5. E) The only way to define an MPS material is via an MRP type.
