Hana : Thoughts

Some of my students ask me
what is
SAP HANA ?
and I always have to Google it right in front of the class
like what I did a minute ago, and it is
SAP "High-Performance Analytic Appliance"
WOW, what a word !!!

The reason I don't remember it
is because I don't know what its is about
and to be honest I don't really care.
That's me, when I don't understand something,
I just don't remember it !!!
Somewhere Someone knows very well about me like that.
Haiz !!!

I remember ... around year 2000
when I attended the SAP APO 1.0 training in Singapore,
it was nothing but ABAP Dump in every screen,
the Instructor attended a training in Germany,
and delivered the course to Consultants in Asia
and she was reading her notes when teaching;
I gave up listening after 15 minutes on the first day
and it was a 5 days course on Introduction to APO.
The Instructor was a Pretty Female SAP Consultant,
I heard she received 7.0 (full marks) from all the Male Consultants
who attended the course, I gave her 1.0 (for her reading skills)
The lunch and dinner was nice,
I enjoyed the night photography !!!

Somewhere in year 2000 was very hectic,
with Enjoy SAP, moving from R/3 to Enterprise SAP,
Basis suddenly was renamed as Netweaver,
SRM, CRM, APO, SEM
you name it all the 3-letter word new SAP software !!!

at that time, SAP introduced Live-Cache Technology
which is said to be SAP proprietary Memory-resident technology
specially developed for APO
by the way,
APO is Advanced Planner and Optimizer (the Advance PP),
and now, Walla, we can execute
Simultaneous MRP CRP
and enjoy the long awaited Optimization logic
welcoming FINITE Capacity Planning.
Haiz !!!
If you did not understand me,
that was me in PP mode.

I have no idea, but I think
that Live-Cache Technology by SAP
was the infancy stage of HANA
(I may be dead wrong on this one
and step into the tails of someone else again !!!)
This time I mean the Technology People.

I have nothing to say about APO at this moment,
maybe next time,
it must have improved as it has been 12 years
since its first appearance.
I will definitely write about my thoughts on APO later !!!
I did teach APO classes for 7 or 8 years, LOL !!!

When HANA came about,
I jokingly tell everyone it is flower (Japanese word for flower is Hana),
はな  (Japanese Hiragana sounds HANA) or Flower  花
and from everyone, I mean
(The Indians instructors and some Chinese as well)
HANA
"Everything will be FASTER"
WOW
"that's a good one !!!"

much like when BASIS change its name to
NETWEAVER,
the technology people will say,
"NETWEAVER will do anything"

Oh, Oh ...
by the way,
last week I was teaching Plant Maintenance classes,
and here comes 2 Indian Consultants delivery 2 days
of Hana for Logistics,
Wow !!!

I was curious as Hell ...
So, I tried to chat .. 15 minutes with these guys during lunch ...
I asked the 2 Indian Experts,
What's new with Hana for Logistics
the replied 3 things:

1. The Vendor Master now change to Partners
What an Improvement.
(WOW ! great !!!)

2. MRP now gives more information due to Hana
(WOW ! now the Planner will be even more busy, Ho Ho Ho !!!)
Our old MRP's Stock Requirements list was a headache with
too much information, and NOW,
more INFORMATION, Good Luck !!!

3. We now have Fiori on Hana
(Eer !!!)
What does that have to do with Hana for Logistics,
Oh, Oh, I know ...
It may mean the transactions now appear on the screen Faster now !!!

Ok lar !!!
I am semi-retired and hopefully retirement soon,
but I still love SAP.
Haiz !!!
Hopefully I still can teach for awhile longer.
Haiz !!!
when these Hana for Logistics things do come into
Logistics training materials on PP MRP class or
whatever class I am suppose to teach,
probably I can say the same thing lor !!!

Let us review what is HANA ...

Looking at the name HANA
"High-Performance Analytic Appliance"
It does seem that it was a TOOL
created to address BW Reporting issues (SLOW)

High-Performance = FAST
Analytic = BW Reporting
Appliance = Tool
I would guess it could have been called "FAST BW Reporting Tool"
FBRT or FBT

APO, CRM, SRM, SEM are all 3-letter words,
FBT is a 3-letter word,
you know !!!

But
HANA sounds better, Right !!
