Consumption Based Planning Material can be a component of a Bill of Material, no BOM explosion will occur for that material in the PP MRP run. CBP material requirements are not dependent on dependent requirements from a BOM explosion but that does not mean that it is only for raw materials. In a trading environment, a finished product can also be a consumption based planning material using the forecasting technique to forecast for independent requirements. It is common in the industry that B and C-parts (ie: cheaper materials) are CBP materials but however, that is only the starting point of deciding a CBP material as there are other factors to consider.
