SAP Software Development Process
- Customer request for a development.
- Immediately announce availability of consultant to make proposal.
- Write the proposal as vague as possible to get sign-off, anyway its only about budget as if the customer have money they will sure sign-off, too much work at this point no meaning anyway. The customer also can use your detail spec to ask for a lower quote by some other partner consultant.
- Chase for the Sign-off within the validity period of the Quotation.
- Write the Spec.
- Important to get customer sign off the Spec before development.
- Let them be aware "No changes allowed" after signing off the Specs. (usually a claws that says only minor cosmetic changes allowed at UAT and grace period of 30 days after go-life for any bugs fixing according to the Specs only)
- Developer will now do the coding.
- Consultant do the testing.
- Write the manual for UAT.
- Ship.
- Customer Test (the customers are a big help here, make sure the customer sign off each document of the test scenario).
- Minor changes to cosmetic allowed (make sure customer sign off to show such changes were acknowledged and processed despite the sign off)
- After go-life, allow the 30 days to past.
- After 30 days, Identify any future requirements the customer feel necessary, these are potential enhancement projects.
- Announce the upgrade program for the enhancements.
- Go through the cycle again.

A new 10-Phase SAP Project
Phase 1
Project Initialization - Enthusiasm with a party for managers, project managers, and the senior consultants. All professionally dressed for the occasion and singing Negaraku before the ceremony begins.
Phase 2
Blue Print - Disillusionment as users will be bombarded with so many SAP words that they feel "pening" whenever the word SAP comes to mind. That's the idea!
Phase 3
Prototyping - No such thing as Usually customer never see this thing coming as it never happen, until this point nothing of SAP screend are shown to the customer to avoid too many questions. Everything is just talk, talk, talk and some silly flowchart only the consultant understand.
Phase 4
Sign off - Sign in Blood. After a few dinners, and parties the managers signs off the blue prints. Senior consultants who wrote the blue prints say good bye.
Phase 5
Realization - Hibernation and Don't worry, Junior Consultants hibernates at this stage figuring out what the Blue Print means and guessing which configuration did the Senior Consultant meant. (the Senior Consultants already went on to another project to write another Blue Print, usually will never be able to be contacted for any clarifications, in this way the blame is on the Juniors who misinterpret what was written) and thats the idea.
Phase 6
Data Conversion - Excel time. Just fill in the blanks in the spreadsheets provided by the Consultants and see what happens.
Phase 7
UAT - Panicking as lots of Yellow Lights start appearing in the heads of those who attended the UAT. But don't worry, a lot of paper were printed and signed off.
Phase 8
Training - Holland Time What the Consultant say does not matter any more, the Consultant will bring everyone for a train ride to Holland and return safely, don't worry a lot of paper were printed to illustrate nothing. You get a nice printed training material that you can put on your desk that shows you have attended SAP In-House Training. This printed material remain in your desk un-touched until the day you resign.
Phase 9
Go Life - Punishing times of the innocent team lead and users. To show how hardworking are the Consultants, usually it is customary to show case their abilities to work until 2-3am in the morning or even overnight and proudly announce these hard working moments in a email declaring project went life.
Phase 10
After Go Life - Rewards the managers who did not do anything. Project hand-over to the Support teams of the Partner implementer who are in for more surprises. At this time, the Support consultants only "agak agak" what is happening and what was configured in the project.
Don't take it too seriously, it was only a weekend joke. I am sure all SAP projects are successful due to excellent project implementation methodologies and all parties involved have the highest professional integrity.

Kiss a Frog
A professionally dressed business woman was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to her
and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a charming prince."
She bent over, picked up the frog and put it in one of the compartments in her bag.
The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a charming Prince,
I will promise to stay with you for a week."
The woman took the frog out of her bag, smiled at it and returned it to the bag.
The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a Prince,
I'll stay with you and do anything for you."
Again the woman took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into her bag.
Finally the frog asked, "What is it with you? I've told you I'm a charming Prince,
and that I'll stay with you for a week and do anything for you. Why won't you kiss me?"
The woman said, "Look, I'm a busy SAP consultant.
I don't have time for boyfriends, but listening to a talking frog seems really cool."

MRP 2 view Procurement Type class discussion
Student: Please explain to me the MRP 2 data view's Procurement Type field ?
Teacher: "E" is for In-house Production and "F" is for External Procurement.
Student: Why not "I" for In-House Production, and "E" for External Procurement ?
Teacher: Because ("F"remdbeschaffung or 分地必作风) in German word is for External Procurement, and ("E" rzeugung or 二叔公) in German word is for Production.
Student: But is it not a Global software ?
Teacher: But it was originally built in German for the German Industry.
Student: Why don't they change it since the software is now globally deployed in so many countries.
Teacher: Paused ... thinking of an answer.
Student: If you say it is the origin of German words that resulted in "E" for In-house Production and "F" for External Procurement (Purchasing). But in German words ("E"rwerbung") which starts with an "E" means Purchasing and ("F"ertigung) which starts with an "F" means Production; then why not "E" for Purchasing and "F" for Production.
Teacher: Paused ... scratching his head ...
Student: Why does SAP wants to called it External Procurement, why don't they just call it Purchasing and Production. What is the all fuss of calling it External Procurement and In-house Production ?
Teacher: Looking at the clock for tea break time .. Paused ...
Student: OK. But you said earlier that External Procurement also means Purchasing from a Vendor as well as Internal Transfer between Plants via an STO. Since there came up with the terminology called External Procurement and In-house Production, then why not another terminology called Internal Procurement for Plant to Plant transfers ?
Teacher: A little annoyed ... still Paused .. looking for an answer
Student: I suggest to you like this, why not change the Procurement Type "E" for External Procurement", "I" for Internal Procurement (Plant-to-Plant transfer), and "P" for Production. Don't you think that will solve the problem.
Teacher: That's a good idea.
Student: But where are they not doing according to my thinking ?
Teacher: Why don't you give me your CV.
Student: Why my CV.
Teacher: So that I can send to SAP Germany, you can apply for a Job there as a Developer in SAP Germany and make these changes for the better of the rest of the World.
